Abstract

The intensification of extreme weather events in the current context has affected not only contemporary social dynamics but also archaeological heritage. This article analyzes the combined impacts of climate change and urbanization on the Jacuné archaeological site, part of the Lagoa de Itaipu Archaeological Complex in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. Based on documentation analysis, interviews with residents, and archaeological identification and research at the site, the article discusses the challenges of preserving and conserving archaeological sites on an urban and constantly changing coastline. Finally, it argues that archaeology, by integrating local knowledge and scientific analysis, can play an active role in formulating socio-environmental resilience strategies.
