Abstract

This article analyzes the agro-industrialization process in Guarapuava-PR, focusing on the agricultural modernization initiated in the 1950s. The objective is to discuss how the convergence between macroeconomic scenarios and local reality promoted the replacement of traditional agriculture by industry-integrated models. It examines the role of the State and private companies in the consolidation of narratives that associate technology with progress, thereby legitimizing agrarian elites. The analysis highlights the role of agricultural development institutions and the regional cooperative system, as well as the use of communication media in the construction of an industrious identity. It is inferred that technological advancement, although increasing productivity rates, aggravated socio-environmental disparities by excluding traditional producers who were unable to adapt to the new agro-industrial model.
