Abstract

The present study analyzes the construction of an articulation in two spheres: the restricted State, through the presence of parliamentarians acting in the “defense of livestock farming,” and civil society, through the offensive undertaken by the Sociedade Rural do Triângulo Mineiro (S.R.T.M.) in the “livestock readjustment campaign” during the 1940s. The methodology is based on a prosopographical analysis of the members of the “Commission for the Support and Defense of Livestock Farming” in 1946, as well as on the periodical Zebu, published by the livestock breeders’ class association of the Triângulo Mineiro. The relevance of the research lies in identifying an organized infiltration of the dominant livestock-breeding class and a unity of action within the restricted State to advance its agenda.
