Abstract

In this study, we analyzed the political developments and factionalisms in the indigenous territory of the Xukuru-Kariri Cristo do Goití Village, in Palmeira dos Índios-AL. The aim was to discuss how the territory relates to socio-cultural immateriality, influencing the religious and daily practices of the indigenous people. The research is relevant because it brings the community into discussions about culture, religion and indigenous issues, broadening future studies and strengthening political and social demands. The methodology included field research, observation and recorded interviews with residents and indigenous leaders. The theoretical framework was based on studies of oral history, the concept of territory and the forced diaspora of the Xucuru and Cariri peoples. The final analysis highlighted the importance of kinship ties in the endogenous socio-political relations of these emerging indigenous peoples.
