This theme results from a study started in 2019, as a result of the drought that several people experienced in the southern region of Angola, specifically in the Municipality of Chibia, which culminated in the research work carried out within the scope of obtaining the Master's degree in Teaching African History at the Higher Institute of Educational Sciences – ISCED Huíla. The Study aimed to record memories and experiences of rural residents of the Municipality of Chibia regarding their ways of life during periods of drought, through the results from the interviews. Looking at the nature and complexity of the research, and because there are few studies on the aforementioned topic, we sought to work directly with those involved in the drought process, that is, several interviews were carried out mainly in the areas most affected by the drought, we spoke with rural residents, administrative and traditional authorities. The interviews made it possible to collect data on the socioeconomic impact, impact on population health, migration and resilience policies used by the Government and populations to mitigate the impacts of the drought. With this study it was possible to understand that the populations are quite resilient and have somehow managed to resist this phenomenon, even so, it is necessary to create projects that result in the large-scale retention of rainwater.
