This article aims to present the perceptions of elementary school teachers regarding continuing education and its impacts on pedagogical practices. The research, a case study, was conducted in a public school in the city of Areia Branca-RN. From a dialogical and multireferential perspective (Ardoino, 1998), we reflect on continuing education, intertwining scientific knowledge, contexts, and practices. As a methodological procedure, we used semi-structured interviews to construct narratives with the participating teachers. The results led us to subsuming notions, namely: continuing education as a condition to transform, reflect upon, and share practice; education as a state policy; and teaching as a political-pedagogical commitment. Based on the teachers’ voices, it was possible to perceive that training should be a continuous process, integrated into their daily routine, fostering peer interaction and encouraging reflection, self-training, and the re-signification of classroom experiences. In this article, we emphasize the need to create a collaborative network of trainers, supported by the teachers themselves, promoting the construction of a local identity for continuing education in the municipalities.
